Web Page Design for Designers - Eight Years Old!
When Web Page Design for Designers started out eight years ago this month, the original idea was to help designers move
from more traditional areas over to Web design. Although I've strayed from that path over the years, I like to revisit it
from time to time – simply because things keep changing. What better subject could there be for an eighth birthday issue?
Even today, many graphic designers work primarily with print and are taught design from a print perspective. Whether their
design education was in an art and design college or they just slipped into the business at the bottom and learned on-the-job,
they have gathered a wealth of knowledge, skills and techniques that are applicable across a whole spectrum of communicative
arts.
This month, we'll have a look at what graphic designers have to offer to the world of Web design. Even though there are
many areas of overlap from those of 'Web designers', a graphic design training produces a different skill set that is an excellent
starting point – if you are careful!
After that, we'll examine some of the vital differences between publishing with paper and pixels.
